Caesar and Cleopatra Stratford FilmDecember 14, 2009… This Boxing Day, see Christopher Plummer in Caesar and Cleopatra – broadcast for the first time in high definition on CTV.
Artistic Director Des McAnuff’s glorious production of Bernard Shaw’s classic comedy will air on CTV at 2 p.m. on December 26.
The film was originally broadcast on Bravo! on April 4 after two extremely successful screenings at Cineplex Entertainment theatres. However, this is the first time the film will be seen in high definition on the main network of CTV.
The production, which was hailed as a triumph by critics throughout North America, features Christopher Plummer as Julius Caesar and Nikki M. James as Cleopatra, the enchanting teenage queen of Roman-occupied Egypt. Their first encounter under a desert moon leads to a shift in history as Caesar teaches Cleopatra to overcome her timidity to become a determined player in the game of power politics.
The film’s Executive Producers, Christopher Plummer, Barry Avrich and Michael Levine, worked in partnership with Bravo! to capture the stage performance over three days in front of live audiences, in HD and digital surround sound.
Presented by Bravo! and produced by Melbar Entertainment Group, Caesar and Cleopatra was generously supported by American Express, Cineplex, Bluma Appel Community Trust, Universal and Jim Doak.

A DVD of Caesar and Cleopatra is available through the Stratford Shakespeare Festival’s Theatre Store. Call 1.800.567.1600 to order a copy.
